Job summary

Xcimer Energy is seeking a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer to own mounting concepts for large, meter-class mirrors used in high-energy laser transport. You will work hands-on in optics labs and on the integration floor, leading a small team and collaborating with manufacturing and science stakeholders.

The role requires 10+ years in opto-mechanical engineering, strong FEA skills, and experience with high-energy laser optics.

Qualifications

Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of opto-mechanical engineering experience with full lifecycle ownership.
Experience designing mounts and support structures for large optics (meter-class).
Experience with PSD-defined base vibration and correlating FEA to test data.
3D CAD experience (NX preferred; SolidWorks acceptable) and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

Responsibilities

Develop mounting and support methodologies for large (meter-class), segmented mirrors.
Design trusses, weldments, optical benches, and adjustment mechanisms for stiffness and thermal stability.
Perform STOP analysis and correlate models to measured data.
Define vibration isolation and damping strategies; lead modal testing.
Produce interface control documents and integrate designs into NX assemblies.
Mentor engineers on precision design and opto-mechanical integration.
