Job summary

The Carying Place seeks a Director of Operations to lead essential infrastructure, including facilities, IT, compliance, and volunteer programs. This senior role ensures budget stewardship and seamless execution of the approved plan while supporting the Executive Director and Board.

You will supervise three direct reports, collaborate with the CFO and Development to align operations with fundraising goals, and help grow organizational capacity for mission delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of operations or administrative leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
• Demonstrated experience managing a volunteer program — intake, onboarding, deployment, and stewardship systems.
• Experience with budget stewardship, grant compliance coordination, or working alongside finance partners in a nonprofit environment.
• Experience overseeing facilities, property management, or capital asset coordination.
• Experience with leading stakeholder/fundraising events.
• Familiarity with nonprofit compliance requirements — state registrations, IRS filings, and licensing.
• Comfortable managing technology vendors and overseeing basic IT operations.
• Strong organizational and project management skills; experience with Asana or a similar platform is a plus.
• Genuine warmth and relational instincts — this role interfaces regularly with volunteers, board members, landlords, vendors, and finance partners.
• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, public administration, or a related field preferred — equivalent experience considered.
• Interest and noted ability in the potential future leadership of Human Resources Management for the organization.

Responsibilities

• Oversee properties and facilities and ensure assets are safe, maintained, and responsibly managed.
• Oversee office management and day-to-day administrative operations.
• Coordinate with the Facilities & Properties Committee of the board.
• Own budget stewardship after board approval, monitor variances, and coordinate grant financial compliance.
• Lead or support fundraising events and work with communications staff for event marketing.
• Manage volunteer lifecycle from intake to deployment and ongoing stewardship.
• Provide oversight of volunteers working on TCP properties and coordinate with the Property Management Coordinator.
• Liaise with the Director of Development to transition volunteers to financial supporters.
• Oversee IT systems with a volunteer IT lead and external IT partner.
