Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology seeks a Lead Cloud Engineer to shape the Observability Platform and drive scalable telemetry pipelines across multiple clouds and datacenters. You will mentor teams, design end-to-end monitoring, and collaborate with SRE and platform teams on reliability standards.

You will help implement OpenTelemetry, build high-throughput data pipelines, and automate operations while ensuring secure, cost-efficient solutions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 5+ years of observability practices (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, incident management).
• 5+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry (OTLP, instrumentation).
• 5+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 5+ years with public clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• 3+ years designing and scaling distributed, high-volume data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helmcharts, Kustomize, etc.
• 3+ years with Grafana OSS or comparable backends.
• 3+ years with IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• 3+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot).
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry (client libraries, conventions, instrumentation).
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability features for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring with SLOs, health checks, and alerts.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams for reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews.
• Automate workflows and CI/CD to reduce manual toil.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation and standards.
• Engage with internal teams to gather requirements and influence roadmaps.
• Provide technical leadership through mentorship and architectural guidance.
