Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology seeks a Senior Observability Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale observability services processing logs, metrics, and traces daily. You will develop backend services in Go, Python, and Java and lead OpenTelemetry adoption across the enterprise.

You will collaborate with SRE, Cloud Engineering, CI/CD, Infrastructure, and security teams to shape platform strategy, improve developer experience, and ensure reliable, secure, and cost-efficient

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 3+ years of observability practices (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, incident management).
• 3+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 3+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry (OTLP, conventions, instrumentation).
• 3+ years with cloud-native platforms and containers (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 3+ years with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• 2+ years designing and scaling distributed data pipelines.
• 2+ years using IaC tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• 2+ years with Helmcharts, Kustomize, etc.
• 2+ years working with Grafana OSS or equivalent observability backends (Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir).
• 2+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Develop custom software to drive the observability platform using Java Spring Boot, Python, Go, etc.
• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services in Go, Python, and Java (Spring Boot).
• Support and lead OpenTelemetry adoption across the enterprise (libraries, conventions, instrumentation).
• Design and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces) for performance and cost efficiency.
• Develop self-service observability capabilities to ease onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring of the observability platform, define SLOs and health checks.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards and incident practices.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident post-mortems and root-cause analysis.
• Automate operational workflows via tooling, CI/CD enhancements, and platform automation.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and best practices.
• Engage with engineering teams to gather requirements and shape roadmap.
• Provide technical leadership through mentorship and architectural guidance.
