Job summary

X Energy, LLC in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is seeking a Nuclear Waste Management Engineer to design and implement waste management solutions that minimize environmental impact and promote safety across our fuel fabrication operations.

You will conduct research, develop processes for handling hazardous materials, monitor performance, troubleshoot variances, and collaborate with R&D and regulatory teams to ensure safe, efficient production and ongoing continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Typically, twenty years of experience in an engineering role.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, material science, or related field.
• A master’s degree may substitute two years of experience.
• A Ph.D. may substitute three years of experience.
• Experience with hazardous waste management preferred.
• Familiarity with DOT regulations for shipping radioactive and hazardous waste.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to a team of process engineers responsible for uranium recovery and hazardous waste operations.
• Design, procure, install, and operate multiple process areas as assigned.
• Develop equipment specifications and ensure design characteristics are met.
• Work with subcontractors and suppliers on equipment delivery.
• Develop methods to safely process chemicals and materials.
• Plan equipment layouts for new processes and products.
• Collaborate with R&D to scale lab processes to pilot and production scale.
• Coordinate safety procedures with regulatory teams.
• Ensure environmental and safety compliance across process areas.
• Maintain master lists of chemical inputs/outputs and equipment.
