Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced structural engineer to join its Nuclear Power Group in Reston, VA. The role involves leading design projects for safety-related structures, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering high-quality engineering deliverables on time.

You will apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, and codes to assess blast and dynamic loading, and you may travel for reviews and site verification. A strong communication skill set is essential.

Qualifications

• MS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Five or more years of experience on a project team in design and analysis of structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software: SAP2000, STRUDL, SASSI, ANSYS, or LS-DYNA.
• Knowledge of code standards: ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI.
• Experience with blast design using UFC 3-340-02 guidelines and SBEDS.
• Experience with explicit dynamic analysis in LS-DYNA.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering design projects and act as technical liaison with clients.
• Collaborate with structural engineers and interface with other disciplines.
• Prepare design calculations and develop specifications for drawings.
• Perform structural analysis of safety-related structures under varied loading.
• Travel to client/vendor sites for design reviews and field verification.
