Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Cary, NC is seeking an experienced nuclear mechanical engineer to support power uprates and turbine retrofit projects. You will interface with clients and project teams, develop proposals and cost estimates, and mentor junior staff on plant engineering tasks.

The role requires strong thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics knowledge, plus extensive nuclear industry experience. Hybrid work arrangement with three days in office and two remote days.

Qualifications

• BSME from ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates or turbine retrofit projects.
• Proficient in preparing calculations and reports; strong technical writing.
• Knowledge of codes and regulations for mechanical design of nuclear plants.
• MS Office proficiency; excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform consulting work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Interface with clients and project teams; present technical discussions and status.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Manage resources, loading and budgets; develop task estimates.
• Review heat balances, pumps, heat exchangers, and related calculations.
• Review equipment evaluations and reports to meet client requirements.
• Lead junior engineers on power plant engineering tasks.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope.
