Job summary

United Migrant Opportunity Services seeks a Controller to oversee all accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and budgeting for government-funded programs. You will ensure internal controls and compliance with nonprofit regulations while guiding the Finance Department.

The role requires strong leadership, advanced Excel skills, and experience with computerized accounting systems. A CPA is preferred and the organization emphasizes mission-driven financial stewardship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
• CPA preferred.
• Minimum 10 years in audit/finance/accounting.
• Minimum 5 years in a lead financial role.
• Experience with computerized accounting systems and advanced Excel.
• Strong technical and analytical skills; ability to build financial models.
• Knowledge of nonprofit funding rules and OMB Circulars.

Responsibilities

• Assist with all finance activities and maintain accounting systems and controls.
• Provide financial insight for short- and long-term growth.
• Ensure all financial statements comply with GAAP.
• Oversee cash management and payroll processes.
• Lead budgeting, variance analysis, and adherence to grant requirements.
• Manage Accounting Department staff and promote service-oriented finance.
• Develop and monitor budgets for programs and projects.
• Install accounting systems and conduct regular audits for efficiency.
• Prepare year-end financial statements and indirect cost proposals.
• Provide financial reporting for Board presentations and committees.
• Maintain current knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
