Base Pay Range

$100,000.00/yr - $125,000.00/yr

A mission‑driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Controller to join its leadership team. This role combines hands‑on accounting with strategic financial oversight for a growing organization of approximately $5M in annual revenue. This is a hybrid role, requiring only one day on‑site per month in the Bronx.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee full‑cycle accounting, including general ledger, journal entries, and month‑end close
• Manage government contract invoicing, reporting, and compliance
• Supervise accounting and grants staff, ensuring accurate allocations and timely reporting
• Prepare financial statements, budget‑to‑actual reports, and audit schedules
• Support annual budgeting, audit preparation, and grant reporting
• Maintain compliance with GAAP and federal/state funding requirements
• Develop and improve accounting systems and internal controls

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
• 3+ years of nonprofit accounting experience with government contracts
• Strong technical proficiency in Fund EZ or comparable accounting software
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and experience with PASSPort a plus
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a small team
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
