Job summary

The ASP Team seeks a seasoned Controller to safeguard the financial integrity of a small nonprofit. You will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, cash management, and grant compliance, reporting to the CEO and guiding the finance team.

In this role you will partner with senior leadership on budgeting, financial planning and grant management, coordinating with a bookkeeping firm and managing payroll. Nonprofit experience is essential.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for accuracy and compliance of financial records and reporting.

• Prepare monthly and special financial reports.
• Oversee accounts payable/receivable, AR and donation reconciliation, and grant audits.
• Manage payroll processing via 3rd party platform (ADP).
• Develop cost allocation systems compliant with grant regulations.
• Lead annual independent audit and government grant audits.
• Develop an annual budget with Senior Management Team.

Job description

We are seeking Controller for a small nonprofit. This role is responsible for the financial integrity of the organization, overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, cash management, financial regulatory compliance and audit functions. The position reports to the CEO and directly manages the accounting team, coordinates with external bookkeeping firm, manages payroll and certain benefits administration, ensures adherence to federal, state, and local grant regulations, and serves as a key strategic partner to senior leadership in budget development, financial planning and grant management.

REPONSIBILITIES:

• Accountable for accuracy and compliance of all financial record keeping and reporting.
• Supervision of accounting staff and external bookkeeping firm.
• Monitor availability of operational cash.
• Prepare monthly and special financial reports.
• Oversee and authorize accounts payable activities & accounts receivable activities, AR and donation reconciliation and grant auditing.
• Manage payroll processing via 3rd party payroll platform (current ADP).
• Develop and maintain system for cost allocation compliant with federal, state and local government grant regulations.
• Lead annual independent audit process and government agency grant audits.
• Develop an annual budget in collaboration with Senior Management Team.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and non-profit accounting practices.
• Effective communication skills.
• Good organization, management, and accounting skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration.
• 7+ years progressively responsible experience for a non-profit organization or business with 20 or more employees.
• Proven success in working with diverse communities.
