Job summary

Shermco Industries is seeking a Senior NETA Field Service Technician to join our team of electrical power system specialists. The role involves traveling to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot and data-collect HV systems, including transformers and switchgear, across Illinois and neighboring states.

Candidates should have 5+ years in switchgear testing, NETA III/IV (or electrician license), and strong PC skills. The role requires flexibility for overnight travel and on-site work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of switchgear testing and troubleshooting experience.
• NETA Certification III or IV preferred or Electrician license.
• Proficient PC skills including email, internet and data entry; Excel experience helpful.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, start-up and data-collection on low, medium and high voltage systems (480 V to 600 kV) at customer sites.
• Travel to customer job sites across the state and bordering states.
• Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance, etc.).
• Test both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
• Test cables: Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot.
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
• Test low, medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
• Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly.
