Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. seeks a Specialized Engineer III to join the Naval Nuclear Laboratory program at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory site in West Mifflin, PA.

The role focuses on evaluating and developing repair technologies for naval applications, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and delivering engineering documentation. Responsibilities include planning and executing laboratory tests, preparing reports, and managing procurement and budgets for assigned projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience.
• Master’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field with 3+ years of experience.
• U.S. citizenship due to federal nature of the work.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance; active DOE "L" clearance or DOD "Secret" clearance highly desired.
• Experience making technical presentations.
• Lead/execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.

Responsibilities

• Support evaluation and development of metallic and non-metallic repair technologies for NNL applications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to research, test, and evaluate repair methods and technologies.
• Assess repair technologies through laboratory testing and vendor activities.
• Develop and maintain procedures, work plans, and technical instructions for repair technology deployment.
• Prepare technical reports, evaluations, and engineering documentation.
• Coordinate with stakeholders across NNL, shipyards, and vendors.
