Job summary

Markon, Inc. seeks a Specialized Engineer III to support the Naval Nuclear Laboratory's Welding Engineering at the Bettis site. You will join a team to assess, develop, test, and evaluate repair technologies for metallic and non-metallic systems, collaborating with NNL, shipyards, and Naval Reactors Headquarters.

Position requires an active DOE L clearance and will be performed onsite in West Mifflin, PA with up to 10% remote work. Travel to vendors and shipyards is expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Active DOE L clearance required (DoD Secret or higher may be considered for clearance transfer).
• Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with minimum 5 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science with minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience making technical presentations.
• Ability to lead and execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.

Responsibilities

• Identify, research, test, and evaluate metallic and non-metallic repair technologies.
• Leverage welding, machining, and industrial processes to support repair technology development.
• Plan, follow up, and execute technical work efforts.
• Develop technical instructions and procedures for engineering activities.
• Track procurement actions and budget performance for projects.
• Prepare technical submittals and engineering documentation.
• Support project planning, equipment testing, and repair deployments at vendors and shipyards.
• Coordinate with stakeholders across NNL, shipyards, and Naval Reactors Headquarters.
• Plan and report project performance within the repair technology community.
