Job summary

Old Republic Commercial Risk seeks a Referral Underwriter to develop and oversee multi-line coverage programs (WC, GL, Commercial Automobile, Property, and Umbrella) and guide risk selection, pricing, risk appetite, and underwriting authority guidelines. The role handles referrals beyond the Regional Manager's authority and collaborates on strategy with cross-functional teams.

The position requires extensive underwriting experience, probabilistic thinking, and travel to client meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
• 7–10 years of multiline underwriting with large accounts and loss-sensitive portfolios.
• Understanding of underwriting mechanics and fundamentals.
• Knowledge of casualty coverage and loss-sensitive deal structures.
• Willingness to travel for business purposes.
• CPCU or Associate in Risk Management designation is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee pricing and loss forecasting for multiple lines (WC, GL, Auto, Property, Umbrella).
• Lead underwriting decisions outside Regional Underwriting Manager authority.
• Manage facultative reinsurance processes and coordinate with Reinsurance Officer.
• Oversee renewal activity, diary creation, and renewal negotiations to maximize capacity.
• Provide technical support and training on underwriting protocols and product offerings.
• Collaborate with Product Development and QA to improve underwriting processes and compliance.
