Job summary

Fernwood Communities is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance operations at Lake Meadows Apartments in Chicago. The role covers hands‑on technical work, team leadership, preventive maintenance, vendor coordination, and on‑call duties to ensure safe, functional living spaces for residents.

The ideal candidate balances hands‑on repairs with leadership, administrative tasks, and a commitment to Fernwood standards in a fast‑paced multifamily environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years of multifamily, residential, commercial, or facilities maintenance management experience.
• Previous maintenance leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, carpentry, drywall, painting, and general building repairs.
• Ability to diagnose maintenance issues and determine the appropriate repair solution.
• Experience coordinating apartment turns, preventive maintenance, contractors, and emergency service.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily maintenance operations for the Lake Meadows community.
• Assign, prioritize, and monitor service requests, preventive maintenance, inspections, and apartment‑turn activities.
• Manage vendors, review invoices, and control maintenance spending.
• Lead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians and on‑site staff.
• Ensure safety, compliance, and high resident service standards.
