Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Motor Control Avionics Engineer within the Lunar Permanence team. You will own the technical baseline for a family of embedded motor controllers used across gimbals, valves, pumps, and deployable mechanisms, ensuring high reliability in demanding space environments.

Lead and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams through the full product lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, verification planning, and production transition.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (electrical, aerospace, mechanical, computer engineering)
  • Significant experience with motor control or motor drive systems (stepper/BLDC)
  • Experience with embedded control electronics in high-reliability environments
  • Experience owning a technical baseline including requirements and verification planning
  • Hands-on hardware lab experience with bring-up, integration, and verification
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and communicate effectively

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical baseline for embedded motor controllers and lifecycles
  • Define reusable motor controller architectures for multiple mechanisms/vehicles
  • Collaborate with vehicle and subsystem teams to define performance and safety requirements
  • Develop controller solutions spanning embedded processing, sensing, power electronics, firmware
  • Work in the lab on bench bring-up, integration, and fault investigation
  • Debug across hardware and software boundaries using scopes, logic analyzers, and test setups
  • Manage interfaces between motor controllers, motors, sensors, and avionics networks
  • Guide cross-functional teams through concept to production transition
  • Lead design trade-offs for performance, redundancy, and environmental robustness
  • Drive fault-tolerant control strategies and health telemetry
  • Plan and execute verification and environmental test campaigns
  • Review hardware designs and test results with electrical design engineers
  • Coordinate with systems, firmware, mechanical, safety, and test teams
  • Communicate status, risks, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders
