Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state is seeking a Principal Motor Control Avionics Engineer to own the technical baseline for embedded motor controllers used across lunar vehicles and mechanisms. You will lead architecture decisions, interfaces, verification plans, and work directly with hardware in the lab from bring-up through qualification.

The role demands deep motor control and embedded electronics experience, strong technical leadership, and the ability to guide a multi-disciplinary team

Qualifications

  • B.S. in electrical, aerospace, mechanical, computer engineering or related field.
  • 12+ years delivering motor control or motor drive systems for electromechanical actuators.
  • Experience with embedded control electronics in safety-critical environments.
  • Experience owning or leading a technical baseline with requirements and verification.
  • Hands-on lab experience with bring-up, integration, and verification of embedded systems.
  • Ability to debug across electronics, firmware, sensors, actuators, and interfaces.
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant architectures for embedded controls.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Responsible Engineer for embedded motor controllers and lifecycle documentation.
  • Define reusable motor controller architectures across mechanisms and missions.
  • Collaborate with vehicle and subsystem teams to meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Develop solutions spanning embedded processing, sensing, power electronics, and firmware.
  • Work in the lab for bench bring-up, checkout, integration, and failure investigation.
  • Debug hardware and software issues using lab equipment.
  • Define interfaces between motor controllers and motors, sensors, and vehicle power.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team through concept to production transition.
  • Make design trades and decisions for performance, redundancy, and manufacturability.
  • Drive fault-tolerant control strategies and health telemetry.
  • Plan and execute verification, test strategies, and environmental tests.
  • Review hardware designs and test results with electrical design engineers.
  • Coordinate with systems, firmware, electrical, mechanical, safety, reliability, and test teams.
  • Communicate status, risks, and trade decisions to stakeholders.
  • Support technical reviews and track actions to resolution.
