Job summary

TruWest Credit Union is seeking an experienced Underwriting Leader to direct Mortgage Underwriting and Processing teams, ensuring timely closings and rigorous risk management. You will oversee associate and junior underwriters, drive process improvements, and maintain adherence to SLAs while supporting a strong member experience.

The role requires SME knowledge of Fannie Mae, Jumbo, Home Equity and Non-QM guidelines, plus 5–8 years of related leadership experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
• Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.
• Subject Matter Expert in Fannie Mae, Jumbo, Home Equity and Non-QM underwriting requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey information to teams and management.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Mortgage Leadership team and oversee Underwriting and Processing functions.
• Manage a team of Underwriters and Processors to ensure timely, accurate loan dispositions and SLA adherence.
• Hire, train, coach, and evaluate staff to build capable, self-reliant teams.
• Direct underwriting and processing operations in line with risk tolerance and quality standards.
• Drive an excellent member experience through leadership of mortgage lending activities.
• Stay current with guideline and regulatory changes and system enhancements.
• Collaborate with leadership to complete monthly scorecards and guide training initiatives.
• Monitor quality trends across conforming, conventional, jumbo and non-QM loans to meet guidelines.
