Western Alliance Bancorporation seeks a Senior Vice President/Senior Director Underwriting to lead underwriting strategy across retail and correspondent channels. You will guide credit risk, drive efficiency, and ensure loan quality while coordinating with product, tech, and external investors.

You will coach and build high-performing teams, manage SLAs, and promote innovative automation to improve cycle times and customer experience. Extensive mortgage expertise is essential.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of related experience in Residential Mortgage Loan Underwriting.
• 8+ years in underwriting management with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
• Experience with digital mortgage platforms and automation tools.
• Deep knowledge of FHA, VA, conventional loans and regulatory rules.
• Strong leadership to manage Underwriters and Managers.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting strategy across all business lines and channels.
• Develop and refine vision for underwriting divisions aligned to risk appetite.
• Drive productivity, loan quality, and service levels across teams.
• Partner with product and tech to deploy automation and AI in underwriting.
• Ensure compliance with bank policies, laws, and investor requirements.
• Manage staffing, training, and performance of underwriting staff.
• Maintain relationships with agency and non-agency partners.
