Job summary

Sunward is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter in the United States (Albuquerque area) to independently review applications and make sound credit decisions within policy. You will support peers, resolve exceptions, and contribute to process improvements while ensuring high-quality outcomes with minimal oversight.

This role requires at least four years of underwriting experience, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and strong knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years’ direct mortgage underwriting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or certification in business, finance, or related field, or four+ years of work experience in lieu of degree.
• Strong knowledge of mortgage lending processes, underwriting, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform underwriting duties with minimal oversight and high accuracy.
• Identify and resolve complex underwriting issues, escalating as needed.
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly in writing and verbally.
• Apply advanced knowledge of systems to verify inputs and review recommendations.
• Support the Mortgage Underwriting team with guidance on moderately complex scenarios.
• Collaborate with processing, closing, and compliance to improve workflows.
