Job summary

Mainspring Energy is seeking a senior engineer to own the modular skid power solution end-to-end, from concept through mass production. You will define topology, ensure robust electrical and physical integration, and lead cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, software, and supply chain.

This on-site role in Menlo Park requires guiding 3rd-party partners, driving cost-down decisions, and delivering factory-ready, scalable systems for data center and utility-scale deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 24+ years of direct experience productizing complex, multi-disciplinary industrial systems.
• Deep technical knowledge of power conversion systems, including MV transformers, central inverters, switchgear, relays, and high-current busbar/cabling systems.
• Experience driving the engineering lifecycle of modular hardware systems with design-to-cost, supplier scaling, field reliability, and configuration control.
• Strong cross-functional leadership translating requirements from electrical, mechanical, and operations teams into a cohesive design.
• Experience directing 3rd-party design, engineering, or CM partners from concept to high-volume production.
• Knowledge of grid interconnection standards, protection schemes, and safety/compliance frameworks (IEEE 1547, UL 1741 SB/SA, NFPA 70/NEC, NFPA 855).

Responsibilities

• Take full engineering ownership of next-generation modular power integration skids from concept through validation and manufacturing release.
• Define and own skid-level power topology for utility-scale and data center sites, ensuring integration of generators, central inverters, transformers, switchgear, and storage.
• Own detailed skid engineering decisions: hardware selection, layout, thermal management, protection, manufacturability, and field serviceability.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, project delivery, operations, software controls, and supply chain teams to extract and freeze system requirements.
• Direct and manage third-party design firms and external manufacturers as the primary technical contact.
• Drive scalability and production readiness of larger skid configurations with suppliers for high-volume replication.
• Own the skid's cost targets and drive design-to-cost trade-offs across hardware and sourcing.
• Develop a site design configuration tool to specify optimal inverter and skid configurations.
