Job summary

Mainspringenergy in California seeks a senior electrical power systems engineer to own the architectural vision of modular power skid products, integrating generators, inverters, transformers, and energy storage for utility-scale projects and data centers.

You will coordinate with electrical, mechanical, software controls, supply chain, and external manufacturers to translate complex designs into mass-manufacturable solutions, driving cost, reliability, and scalable production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 18+ years of direct experience productizing complex, multi-disciplinary industrial systems.
• Deep technical knowledge of power conversion systems including MV transformers, central inverters, switchgear, vacuum circuit breakers, protective relays, and high-current busbar/cabling systems.
• Experience driving the engineering lifecycle of modular hardware with design-to-cost, supplier scaling, field reliability, and configuration control.
• Strong cross-functional leadership translating requirements into manufacturing-ready designs.
• Experience directing third-party design firms and CM partners from concept to volume production.
• Knowledge of grid interconnection standards and safety/compliance frameworks (IEEE 1547, UL 1741 SB/SA, NFPA 70/NEC, NFPA 855).
• Knowledge of SCADA, industrial networking, and UL 508/508A control systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the modular power integration skid design from concept to production release.
• Define skid power topology for utility-scale and data center sites.
• Make detailed skid engineering decisions on hardware, layout, thermal, and protection.
• Collaborate with internal teams to extract and freeze system requirements.
• Direct third-party design firms and external manufacturers as primary technical contact.
• Drive scalability and production readiness of larger skid configurations with suppliers.
• Own skid cost targets and perform design-to-cost trade-offs.
• Develop site design configuration tool for optimal inverter/skid configuration.
