Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mine Waste team, focusing on tailings and heap leach facilities in the mining sector. The position offers opportunities to lead civil design and geotechnical analyses across challenging projects in the Southwest and Nevada.

You will manage projects, mentor junior engineers, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to client development while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 5–7 years of post-education experience in engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration.
  • Experience in tailings management and heap leach facility design in the mining industry.
  • Sound knowledge in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Project management experience with scoping and tracking hours/expenses.
  • Ability to lead junior engineers and collaborate with subcontractors.
  • Commitment to safety, QA/QC and ethical conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Lead civil design of mine waste containment and heap leach facilities, including layout, site selection, and design drawings.
  • Manage and execute geotechnical projects, including investigations, testing programs, data interpretation, and analyses.
  • Perform advanced geotechnical analyses (stability, seepage, thermal modelling, deposition modelling).
  • Own projects end-to-end, delivering high-quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Support client relationships and business development activities.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with engineers and planners.
  • Contribute to proposals and design work packages for client needs.
