Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer with mining experience to join our Mine Waste team in Lakewood, CO. You will lead civil design for tailings and heap leach facilities, perform geotechnical analyses, and coordinate with a regional team on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects.

Responsibilities include managing diverse geotechnical projects, directing analyses, mentoring junior staff, and supporting proposals and client relationships while maintaining QA/QC

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/geotechnical engineering or related field.
• 5–7 years of post-education engineering experience with geotechnical design.
• Professional Engineer registration.
• Experience with tailings management and heap leach facility design in mining.
• Soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering knowledge.
• Client liaison and business development skills.
• Project management for small to mid-level projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead junior staff and ensure QA/QC.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design of mine waste containment facilities, including layout, site selection, and design drawings.
• Manage geotechnical projects including field investigations, lab testing, data interpretation, and analyses.
• Direct complex geotechnical analyses: stability, seepage, thermal modelling, deposition modelling, and runout analyses.
• Manage projects to client-approved scopes and deliver reports on time and budget.
• Support client relationships and business development activities.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Contribute to proposals and design work packages.
• Stay current with geotechnical engineering techniques.
• Coordinate with engineers and planners on infrastructure projects.
