Job summary

ResourceTek is seeking an experienced Senior Metallurgist for a direct-hire role in the Reading, PA area. The successful candidate will support the melt shop operations (VIM, ESR, VAR) and provide technical services to internal and external customers in collaboration with a global metals manufacturing leader.

Responsibilities include disposition of non-conforming material, statistical problem solving, and process optimization to improve yield, productivity and cost reductions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
• 4+ years of relevant work experience.
• Willingness to travel on a limited basis.

About the Role

In partnership with our client, a global leader in metals manufacturing, we are seeking an experienced Senior Metallurgist located in the Reading, PA area. The ideal candidate will provide a range of technical services to internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company and division goals. This position provides technical support to all aspects of the melt shop in which they are assigned (VIM, ESR, VAR). This is a direct hire opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for making disposition of referred, non-conforming and off-standard material.
• Apply statistical methods to solve problems and design experiments.
• Ensure quality of melts by timely melt record review, verification of adherence to procedures, and frozen practice agreements with customers.
• Participate in new procedure development and process optimization through application of process management and standardized work philosophy, establishment of meaningful critical process variables and process tests, and variation reduction.
• Improve yield, productivity and cost reductions of melt operations.
• Evaluate and qualify of new raw material/refractory sources, specification review for new products, and participation in problem solving customer technical issues related to melting.
• Interact with operations, technical, R&D, purchasing, and quality personnel as well as providing technical support during customer audits.
• Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field required.
• 4+ years of relevant work experience required.

Required Skills

• Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices.
• Specialized knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment. Awareness of newest and latest technologies available.
• Understanding of the application of statistics, six sigma and BPI practices.
• Experience initiating programs and projects, driving results on schedule and anticipating and mitigating risks.
• Ability to provide support and guidance to peers, customers and manager in key projects and opportunities with minimal assistance.
• Ability to lead, support and participate on project teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
• Ability to be a functional individual contributor with minimal supervision.
• Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas.
• Ability to travel on a limited basis.
• Ability to provide training and education to customers.
• Ability to provide mentorship to internal resources as requested within functional area.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate well with production operators on the shop floor to drive improvement in safety, quality, productivity and costs.
