Job summary

Universal Stainless seeks a Process Metallurgist to support melt shop operations (AOD/EAF/bottom pouring) ensuring quality and cost-efficient processes. Bridgeville, PA.

You will analyze heats, disposition data, and collaborate with plant management across locations to drive improvements and align with customer and regulatory audits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4-year degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science.
  • Graduate degree with specific focus on steelmaking is desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a process metallurgist in a melt shop.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Quality and Safety systems and procedures.
  • Review and disposition heats produced in the air melt shop.
  • Improve melt shop practices for product/process improvement.
  • Coordinate with management and functional groups across Universal Stainless locations.
  • Perform statistical analysis and correlate process and product data.
  • Support non-conformance disposition, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Review customer claims and issue technical reports.
  • Provide support during customer and regulatory audits.

Salary Range: $100,000.00 To $120,000.00 Annually

Primary Objective
  • Provide technical support related to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of products that safely and cost effectively meet requirements for quality and delivery, with a focus on melt shop (AOD/EAF/bottom pouring) operations.
Position Reports To:
  • Technical Manager - Bridgeville
Responsibilities
  • Compliance with Quality and Safety systems and procedures
  • Review and disposition heats produced in the air melt shop.
  • Improve melt shop practices with regards to product/process improvement.
  • Internal interface to Management and functional groups across Universal Stainless plant locations
  • Perform statistical analysis and correlate process and product data
  • Support non-conformance disposition, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
  • Lead and support continuous improvement efforts
  • Review customer claims and issue technical reports
  • Provide support during customer and regulatory audits
  • No supervisory responsibilities
Skills
  • Ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving techniques (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and statistical analysis skills
  • SEM/EDS operation preferred
Education
  • Minimum 4-year degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science; graduate degree with specific research or practical focus on steelmaking is desirable.
  • Minimum 5 year's experience as a process metallurgist within a melt shop environment
Preferred Experience
  • 3 years minimum experience in ferrous metallurgy of Aerospace materials
  • 3 years minimum experience in primary melting and remelting processing
  • Preferred experience with SEM/EDS including automated feature analysis (AFA)
