Job summary

Carpenter Technology in Reading, PA seeks a Senior Metallurgist for Premium Melting (VIM, ESR, VAR). The role supports melt shop operations, quality control, and process optimization to improve yield and reduce costs.

Collaboration across operations, R&D, purchasing and quality is essential, with travel as needed. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field and 4+ years of experience, with strong knowledge of metallurgical principles and production

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field is required.
• 4+ years of relevant experience required.
• Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices.
• Experience with metallurgical and production equipment.
• Knowledge of statistics, Six Sigma and BPI practices.

Responsibilities

• Dispose of referred, non-conforming and off-standard material.
• Apply statistical methods to solve problems and design experiments.
• Review melt records for quality and adherence to procedures.
• Support new procedures and process optimization.
• Improve yield, productivity and cost reductions in melt operations.
• Evaluate raw materials and participate in problem solving with customers.
