The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (Advanced MSA) role within the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS) supports the Office of Community Care (OCC). Responsibilities

  • The Advanced MSA performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information.
  • Performs Community Care Coordination duties related to consult review, scheduling, and coordination of Community Care documentation.
  • Interfaces with clinical and administrative applications required for scheduling, coordination, and management of Community Care referrals.
  • Coordinates care with VA Medical Centers, contract vendors, community providers and Third-Party Administrators to ensure timely Veteran care.
  • Maintains communication with patients, interdisciplinary teams, VA Medical Centers, and providers to ensure efficient operation.
  • Processes authorizations for outpatient and inpatient Community Care programs and coordinates records transfer and return.
  • Adheres to Patient Safety standards using VA patient identification, and follows SOPs and applicable regulations.
  • Develops proposals to improve workload distribution, efficiency, and productivity within the OCC.
  • Coordinates and closes Community Care consults once treatment is completed.
