Job summary

Highmark Health is seeking a qualified Medical Coding Specialist to perform thorough medical record reviews, assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and abstract data for statistical requests. You will support efficient cash flow by ensuring accurate unbilled coding and stay current with coding guidelines.

Responsibilities include mentoring team members, participating in training, and applying trauma/teaching/observation coding knowledge across service lines.

Qualifications

• 5 years of Hospital and/or Physician Coding experience
• 1 year of Coding - all specialties and service lines
• Extensive knowledge in Trauma/Teaching/Observation guidelines
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• Certifications such as CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC or COC
• Associate's Degree preferred

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and inputs coded data into designated system
• Manages medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports
• Keeps up-to-date with ICD-10 CM/CPT guideline changes and implements updates
• Mentors others as a subject matter expert
• Performs additional duties as assigned
