Job summary

University of Rochester seeks an experienced Medical Coder to perform advanced coding of diverse medical documentation and assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes according to current guidelines.

The role involves data abstraction, handling coding inquiries, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure accuracy and compliance. Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/CPT/HCPCS and medical terminology is essential; RHIA/RHIT/CCS or CPC/CMC credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
• Ability to analyze and abstract medical information for coding.

Responsibilities

• Translate medical documentation into codes using coding guidelines.
• Review and resolve coding denials and correct errors.
• Abstract data and review codes for accuracy.
• Respond to coding information requests from various sources.
• Consult with internal customers and vendors for clarity when documentation is inconsistent.
• Other duties as assigned.
