Job summary

Merck is seeking a Mechanical Services Engineer to ensure reliable equipment performance through hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and investigations. You will align maintenance projects with Safety, Compliance and Cost goals, and identify improvement opportunities with limited supervision.

The role requires coordinating with Operations, Quality, and Technology teams, leading root cause analyses, and maintaining CMMS data.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years’ in a production and/or calibration and/or maintenance background.
• Strong planning, scheduling, and time management skills.
• Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in accordance with GMP manufacturing operations.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Experience with GMP compliant calibration and maintenance databases.
• Project management experience including change control and equipment qualification.
• cGMP experience in a sterile, bulk or finished pharmaceutical environment.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes calibration, maintenance, and equipment performance to identify trends and reduce reactive work.
• Update calibration and maintenance SOPs to ensure safety and compliance.
• Collaborate with Operations, Technology, Automation, and Quality to determine investigation scope and root cause.
• Lead safety adherence and participate in divisional Safety Audits.
• Lead deviation investigations for instruments, equipment, and system failures.
• Identify process improvements and corrective actions to improve uptime and reduce cost.
• Develop training materials and provide SME-level maintenance training.
• Work with lean six sigma team to develop reliable manufacturing processes meeting cGMP.
• Support safety programs and environmental compliance from a maintenance perspective.
• Collaborate with maintenance technicians and engineers to maintain production equipment.
• Maintain accurate BOMs and equipment information in CMMS.
• Establish and lead condition monitoring strategies (PI, vibration, infrared, etc.).
• Establish metrics to improve equipment performance and lead PM optimization.
