Job summary

Johnson Controls in Burlington, MA seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Vacuum Systems, to bring lab concepts into mass production. You’ll own and improve vacuum hardware, commission systems, and optimize the Stack Forging process for high-vacuum environments.

You will design vacuum chambers, perform thermal analyses and FEA, coordinate with cross-functional teams, manage BOMs and vendor relationships, and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering.
• Experience designing vacuum chambers and components for high- or ultra-high vacuum.

Responsibilities

• Design and update subsystem designs, BOMs, specifications, CAD models, and drawings.
• Lead design processes with requirements, concept generation, down-selection, and reviews.
• Document design decisions and communicate with cross-functional teams.
• Improve equipment efficiency, tolerance, process stability, and automation.
• Refine machine requirements with product, process, and operations teams.
• Perform proof-of-concept calculations and benchtop tests to guide design.
• Analyze systems with parametric modeling and evaluate trade-offs.
• Manage external vendors for components and subsystems.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and statistical tolerances for assembly.
