Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join the Power global practice in Chicago. You will lead mechanical design for coal and natural gas facilities, interfacing with project managers, clients, and disciplines.

Responsibilities include front-end planning, design, construction support, and cost/schedule management. Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• FE exam completed or eligible; master’s may substitute for one year experience.
• 7+ years related mechanical experience; EPC project exp preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects for gas and coal-fired facilities.
• Develop cost opinions, work plans, schedules, and technical studies.
• Provide leadership to junior staff and coordinate with clients and suppliers.
• Review submittals, ensure code compliance, and support construction administration.
• Perform piping, pump sizing, and instrumentation selections; P&ID development.
