Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Chicago seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to lead project teams across power, process, healthcare and other sectors. You will drive civil design from concept through construction, coordinating with clients and other disciplines while managing budgets and schedules.

You will review drawings, prepare specifications, mentor junior engineers, and ensure QA/QC, safety and regulatory compliance. A PE license and ABET-accredited degree plus 7+ years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program, and 7 years civil engineering experience required.
• Or bachelor's degree in civil or related engineering technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of FE exam, and 7 years civil engineering experience required.
• Or master's degree in civil engineering and 6 years civil engineering experience required.
• EPC project experience preferred.
• Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Strong computer skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
• Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to travel.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design project teams from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Prepare civil equipment data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries and purchase recommendations.
• Review civil vendor drawings and interface with suppliers and clients.
• Develop project schedule, scope, budget staffing and construction planning.
• Manage change orders and QA/QC processes.
• Provide leadership and mentor less experienced engineers.
• Build relationships with clients and pursue new business opportunities.
