Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer to oversee design and evaluation of mechanical systems for coal and natural gas generation facilities, plus related support facilities. You will manage front-end planning, final design, bidding documents, and construction administration, interfacing with project managers, suppliers, and clients.

The role requires leading mechanical design projects, strong communication, and the ability to devise new approaches to complex problems.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Mechanical Engineering; FE exam completed or eligible.
• 7 years of related mechanical experience.
• EPC project experience preferred.
• PE license preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop cost opinions, work plans, and schedules; coordinate work requiring judgment in engineering techniques.
• Provide leadership guidance and instruction to less experienced staff.
• Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.
• Lead mechanical design projects related to natural gas and coal-fired generation facilities.
• Air Quality Control Systems and Effluent Limitation Guideline Management.
• Equipment sizing and application; hydraulic calculations and pump selection.
• Pipe and valve selection and sizing; pipe supports and routing; P&ID development.
