Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for the Power global practice in the US. You will lead front-end planning, preliminary design, and final design for coal and natural gas fired generation facilities, including construction administration and vendor coordination.

The role requires 7+ years of mechanical experience, ABET-accredited education, and strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. EPC experience and PE license are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related ABET-accredited degree; FE allowed for substitution via experience.
  • 7 years of related mechanical experience required.
  • EPC project experience preferred.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cost opinions, work plans, and schedules; coordinate work requiring judgment in applying engineering techniques.
  • Provide leadership guidance and instruction to less experienced staff.
  • Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.
  • Lead mechanical design projects for natural gas and coal-fired generation facilities.
  • Air Quality Control Systems and Effluent Limitation Guideline management.
  • Equipment sizing and application.
  • Hydraulic calculations and pump sizing/application.
  • Pipe and valve selection and sizing; pipe materials and supports.
  • P&ID development and reviews.
  • Mechanical equipment condition assessment and lifecycle cost analysis.
  • Plumbing (sanitary and potable water); pumping and piping of fluids or gases.
  • Tank/vessel selection and sizing; instrumentation location.
  • Other duties as assigned.
