Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join the Power global practice in Kansas City, MO. You will lead mechanical design projects for coal and natural gas-fired generation facilities, from front-end planning to construction administration, interfacing with clients and other disciplines.

The role requires strong leadership, analytical and communication skills, and EPC project experience is preferred. PE license is preferred; FE exam completed may substitute.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related ABET-accredited program; FE exam completion preferred
• 7 years of related mechanical experience
• EPC project experience preferred
• PE license preferred

Responsibilities

• Develop cost opinions, work plans, and schedules; coordinate independent evaluation and criteria
• Provide leadership guidance to less experienced staff
• Regularly meet and correspond with clients and outside personnel
• Lead mechanical design projects for natural gas and coal-fired facilities
• Oversee air quality control systems and effluent guideline management
• Perform equipment sizing and pump selection; hydraulic calculations
• Select pipes, valves, materials, and pipe routing
• Prepare P&ID’s and perform lifecycle cost analyses
• Assess mechanical equipment conditions and perform plumbing design
