Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a senior mechanical engineer to own the mechanical design of multi-axis precision motion subsystems. You will work end-to-end from concept to production, closely paired with the floor to iterate designs and ensure tight tolerances.

You will collaborate across thermal, fluid, and controls domains to deliver production-ready hardware. This on-site Seattle role offers relocation support and a chance to shape future generations of spaceflight hardware.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years designing precision mechanical systems, industrial machinery, automation equipment, or aerospace mechanical elements.
  • Experience designing multi-axis motion systems (gantries, stages, slides).
  • Experience designing mechanisms such as linkages, actuators, latches, hinges, or similar assemblies.
  • Strong 3D modeling and simulation skills; CREO preferred.
  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stacks.
  • Understanding of fabrication and shop-floor buildability.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware in operation.
  • U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical design of multi-axis precision motion subsystems and related components.
  • Design and analyze mechanisms, linkages, actuators, latches, and protective interfaces.
  • Diagnose and correct position-dependent geometric errors and develop calibration methods.
  • Participate in the entire design cycle: concept, analysis, testing, and production release.
  • Create 3-D models, drawings, and interface documents with GD&T.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analyses on precision assemblies.
  • Integrate mechanical interfaces with thermal and fluid subsystems.
  • Collaborate with controls, electrical, and process engineering to ensure system coherence.
  • Document assembly, testing, and validation for development and production hardware.
  • Lead subsystem and machine-level testing and root-cause analysis for field failures.
