Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in Washington state seeks a senior Mechanical Engineer to advance automated manufacturing hardware and tooling. You will design, integrate, and optimize mechanical systems, manage end-to-end life cycles, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, reliable solutions for spaceflight hardware.

Candidates should have 10+ years of hands-on CAD, GD&T, and experience with automation equipment; a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. U.S.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience with from-scratch design, procurement, assembly, commissioning, and maintenance of automated tooling or equipment.
  • CAD with advanced understanding of and demonstrated ability to implement GD&T on 2D drawings through design, peer review, and engineering release.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and hands-on problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of control systems, robotics, and automated industrial equipment, machines, and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design, hardware development, and visualization using 3D CAD.
  • Create, interpret, and review mechanical drawings.
  • Overseeing the entire project lifecycle, including requirements intake, design, construction, commissioning, and ongoing support.
  • Develop the hardware design and process flow for automated equipment and tooling in both simulated and real-world settings.
  • Design custom automation equipment including robotic end effectors and material handling components.
  • Provide production support for sophisticated manufacturing equipment and perform root cause analysis.
  • Project management and vendor/supplier coordination.
  • Support initiatives to improve reliability and efficiency through automation; define architecture and roadmaps.
  • Integrate mechanical, electronic, pneumatic and related components into unified systems.
