Job summary

TKDA, an employee-owned engineering and design firm, seeks a Senior Professional Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC, plumbing, processing, and other mechanical system designs for heavy industrial facilities, including mining and metals.

You will mentor teams, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to business development through proposals and capabilities presentations, with a hybrid work arrangement based in Duluth, MN or Bloomington, MN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
• 10+ years of progressive experience designing heavy industrial structures (manufacturing, mining) in Minnesota.
• Proficiency with RISA 3D or Ram Structural System, MathCAD, and MS Office.
• Knowledge of structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, and precast concrete for new and expanded projects.
• Experience with structural condition assessments and repair plans.
• Strong written and verbal communication for proposals, reports, meetings, and client presentations.
• Ability to coach and mentor junior staff on design standards, quality, and project management.
• Valid Driver’s License with ability to travel up to 30% (overnight travel possible).

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical and structural design for heavy industrial plant and site operations.
• Prepare mechanical plans, specifications, design details, and construction documents.
• Lead design teams and manage technical, quality, financial, and safety aspects from conception through construction.
• Collaborate with Mechanical Group Manager, Market Managers, and VP of Mining on business development and proposals.
