Job summary

HED is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and documentation of complex mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, with minimal oversight. You will validate calculations, manage Revit models, and coordinate across architecture, structure, and civil teams.

The role requires a PE license, a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, 10+ years in the AEC industry, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
• P.E. licensure required.
• 10+ years in the AEC industry preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Revit experience required.
• Must be located in the US or Canada for this position.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and documentation of complex mechanical systems—such HVAC, plumbing and/or fire protection systems—with minimal oversight.
• Validate and approve key mechanical engineering calculations and integrate results into design.
• Oversee setup of mechanical Revit models, including views, sheet organization, and annotations.
• Coordinate across architectural, structural, and civil teams to resolve conflicts.
• Serve as the primary mechanical technical contact across project teams.
• Review mechanical submittals, RFIs and substitutions; coordinate detailed responses.
• Perform site visits, field verification, and generate field reports.
• Provide design leadership from concept through construction administration; guide system selection and performance targets.
• Lead QAQC reviews and assist in developing project-specific mechanical quality plans.
• Mentor junior engineers and mechanical designers; participate in fee development and resource planning.
• Lead internal and external project meetings presenting system concepts and trade-offs.
