Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer- Building Systems for our Columbia, MD office. You will lead mechanical design and construction oversight for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related systems on complex facilities across healthcare, higher education, laboratories and mission-critical projects.

You will provide technical leadership, deliver high-quality design deliverables, manage budgets and schedules, mentor staff, and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to meet client

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 7–10 years of post-education experience in engineering and mechanical design.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required, multi-state preferred.
• Proficient with mechanical design, building systems, and design/build processes.
• Experience with rehabilitation, reconstruction, and new design projects.
• Strong writing, communication, and QA/QC skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and project management for mechanical systems incl. HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
• Oversee data collection, analysis, and coordination with owners and disciplines.
• Develop construction plans, safety/phasing plans, and infrastructure layouts.
• Mentor staff and ensure high-quality deliverables and adherence to standards.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams on complex facilities projects.
