Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join the Property & Buildings Building Systems Team in St. Louis, Missouri. You will lead building systems design and project delivery across commercial, healthcare, education, science & technology, and civic sectors.

You will guide HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, and life-safety systems, mentor engineers, and coordinate with architects and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions from concept to construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary building projects through design and construction.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, central plant systems, hydronics, plumbing systems, and building energy performance.
• Experience preparing construction documents, specifications, and engineering calculations.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and industry-standard mechanical engineering software.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and client relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery for a diverse portfolio of building projects.
• Serve as the technical lead for HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, and life safety systems from planning through construction administration.
• Manage projects and engineering teams to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines to deliver integrated building solutions.
• Serve as a client-facing representative and trusted advisor throughout project execution.
• Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and project pursuits.
• Perform and review engineering calculations, studies, specifications, reports, and construction documents.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, energy standards, and industry best practices.
• Support commissioning, field investigations, and construction-phase services as required.
• Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and career development support to junior engineers and designers.
• Foster collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the Mechanical Engineering practice.
