Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Designer to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM. The role focuses on creating robust product definitions using Creo, GD&T, and MBD while ensuring producibility and compliance with national standards.

The candidate will mentor staff, lead design reviews, and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to satisfy government requirements and quality expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship due to the federal nature of the work.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance if needed.
• Proven experience with Creo 3D CAD, PLM, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Experience with mechanical CAD, manufacturing, inspection, assembly, and testing.
• Experience checking Creo models for form, fit, function and MBD.
• Experience conducting tolerance and stack analyses and compliance with design standards.
• Proven mechanical design ensuring producibility and meeting requirements.
• Knowledge of MBD best practices and compliance with NNSA/LANL/industry standards.
• Familiar with ASME Y14 standards, esp Y14.5-2009 and Y14.41 MBD.
• Experience developing/interpreting 3D CAD model standards and NSE procedures.
• Knowledge of hardware fabrication, inspection, and assembly processes.
• Experience with weapon-system configuration management workflows.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks for diverse customers.
• Proven experience leading design reviews.
• Record of cooperative work with engineers, scientists, technicians.

• Guide teams through design iterations to address engineering defects.
• Develop technical solutions for complex problems with ingenuity and independence.
• Mentor junior staff on models-based definition and GD&T.
