Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Reston, VA is seeking a Mechanical Design Lead with expertise in SmartPlant S3D to develop mechanical general arrangement, piping isometrics, pipe supports and equipment layouts in a 3-D model.

You will guide a multi-disciplined team, resolve clashes, review vendor drawings, and mentor junior drafters while coordinating with engineering disciplines to meet project deliverables.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of detailed design experience in mechanical plant design drawings (piping, pipe supports and equipment layout).
• Experience with SmartPlant S3D modeling software and SPID/SPF integration.
• Ability to interface with engineering and design teams across disciplines.
• Experience reviewing vendor drawings and interface points.

Responsibilities

• Under direction of Mechanical Project Lead, develop mechanical GA, piping isometrics, pipe supports, and equipment layout in a 3D model.
• Use SmartPlant S3D to generate deliverables, BOMs, and commodity lists.
• Interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams (SPID) to ensure designs meet engineering requirements.
• Lead mechanical detailed design coordination for all aspects of the model; resolve clashes.
• Coordinate with designers to ensure complete and timely designs; mentor less experienced drafters.
• Plan and execute design of mechanical deliverables independently and provide guidance to team.
