Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical Designer to work under the Mechanical Project Lead on developing mechanical general arrangements, piping isometrics, pipe supports, and equipment layouts in a 3D model in Reston, VA.

You will utilize SmartPlant S3D to generate deliverables, BOMs, and commodity lists while interpreting SPID diagrams and coordinating with other disciplines to ensure a complete design. Mentoring junior staff is part of the role.

Qualifications

• Essential skills and experience: experience with SmartPlant S3D modeling including SPID, SPF and S3D integration, clash detection, discrepancy checks, and interface with SmartPlant Administrators.
• At least 3 years of detailed design experience in mechanical plant design drawings: piping, pipe supports and equipment layout.
• Proficiency with 3D plant layout tools and reviewing project deliverables and vendor drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical general arrangement, piping isometrics, pipe supports, and equipment layout drawings in a 3D model.
• Generate mechanical design deliverables, BOMs, and commodity lists using SmartPlant S3D and SPF database.
• Interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams created with SPID and ensure design aligns with engineering requirements.
• Lead the mechanical design team in coordinating detailed design phases for the model.
• Resolve clashes in the 3D model and report status.
• Coordinate and guide other designers and project team members to ensure complete and timely design.
• Independently plan and execute mechanical deliverables.
• Mentor less experienced drafters and designers.
