Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a senior-level engineer to lead and evaluate HVAC and plumbing system designs on diverse projects, from design/build to rehabilitation. You will supervise junior engineers, perform complex calculations, and provide ongoing technical guidance.

Strong communication and CAD skills are essential for coordination with clients and contractors. California-based role requiring a PE license, a bachelor's degree in engineering, and 8+ years' experience including leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
• PE License is required
• 8+ years of experience, including lead experience
• Excellent knowledge of HVAC and plumbing design and system operations
• Ability to read complex mechanical and plumbing plans
• Excellent verbal and written communication with all levels of stakeholders
• Strong public speaking/presentation skills
• Excellent computer skills including CAD and Microsoft Office (Excel)

Responsibilities

• Provides conceptual design for specific projects
• Serves as design professional at project team design meetings
• Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating
• Performs complex calculations (heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, friction and hydraulic calculations)
• Performs site inspections to verify conformance with construction documents and resolves design issues during construction
• Supervises less-experienced engineers in performing HVAC or other system design and documents production of projects
