Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Senior Design Engineer in Tempe, AZ to provide conceptual design for projects and supervise junior engineers in HVAC and related system design. You will participate in design meetings, prepare redline layouts for estimating, and perform complex calculations for loads, sizing, and system performance.

The role requires a PE license, a 4-year engineering degree, and 5+ years of experience with HVAC and plumbing systems.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License required.
• 5+ years experience in engineering or related field.
• Excellent knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels.

Responsibilities

• Serves as design professional at project team design meetings.
• Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Performs complex calculations for a project (heating/cooling loads, sizing, friction losses).
• Performs site inspections to ensure construction documents compliance and resolves design issues.
• Supervises or directs the workflow of less-experienced engineers in HVAC or other system design.
