Job summary

Corning Incorporated in New York is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design and analysis of forming equipment, tooling, fixtures, and prototype systems used in fiber draw and precision forming applications. You will own solutions from requirements through installation in partnership with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software experience for advanced mechanical design.
• Experience developing production-quality drawings, BOMs, and fabrication documentation.
• Ability to perform tolerance stack-ups, design calculations, and interpret FEA models.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, materials, fits, fasteners, and fabrication methods.
• Ability to independently develop and own complete equipment designs from requirements through validation.
• Experience leading design reviews and resolving complex design issues using engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of forming equipment, tooling, fixtures, and prototypes.
• Own complete equipment and subsystem designs from requirements to validation.
• Perform and review tolerance stack-ups and stress/deflection calculations; develop and interpret FEA models.
• Create and review production drawings, BOMs, and fabrication documentation.
• Lead design reviews to ensure safety, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets.
• Collaborate with process, controls, fabrication, and operations teams to integrate designs.
• Provide engineering support through build, installation, startup, and commissioning.
