Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Painted Post, NY, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of glass melting and forming equipment from concept to start-up. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 5+ years of design or engineering experience
• Experience designing melting and/or forming equipment in a production environment
• Multidisciplinary approach to design and solving manufacturing problems
• Hands-on knowledge of glass melting and/or forming across multiple processes
• Strong knowledge of high-temperature equipment design, including thermal management and creep
• Ability to deliver engineering projects on schedule and within budget
• Ability to lead through influence with international teams across time zones and cultures
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Lead design of new glass melting and forming equipment from concept through fabrication, installation, and start-up
• Apply melting and forming expertise to new equipment and technology development, including prototypes and pilot-scale trials
• Evaluate technical options and design concepts for new melting and forming equipment, including their technical and economic viability
• Lead technical execution of projects, including scope, schedule, and budget inputs
• Perform engineering calculations and analysis, and write technical reports
• Define thermal/structural/fluids modeling needs and work with analysis specialists to apply results to design
• Lead design reviews and risk assessments
• Interact with domestic and international manufacturing sites and the Science and Technology Division
